Event participation: XXII Brazilian Symposium on Water Resources, Florianópolis (SC)

November 26, 2017

Based on the “State Plan of Water Resources of the State of Rondônia (PERH/RO)”, RHA Water and Environmental Resources Engineering Ltda. presented the work of “INFLUENCE OF FLOW SEASONALITY IN THE CRITERIA FOR GRANTING WATER USE RIGHTS IN THE STATE DE RONDÔNIA – RO “at the XXII Brazilian Water Resources Symposium that took place between November 26 and December 1, 2017, in Florianópolis-SC.

INFLUENCE OF FLOW SEASONALITY IN THE CRITERIA FOR GRANTING WATER USE RIGHTS IN THE STATE OF RONDÔNIA – RO:

Abstract: The definition of a reference flow for purposes of granting water use rights is of paramount importance for the adequate management of water resources. In general, the Brazilian states adopt a constant value as a minimum reference flow in the criteria. For regions that have a well-defined seasonality, as in the case of Rondônia, this procedure implies a rather restrictive concession in periods of greater water availability and less restriction in periods of drought, reducing economic potential and increasing environmental risk (BOF et al., 2013). In the context of proposing criteria for granting water use rights in the State of Rondônia, a study was prepared to evaluate the influence of seasonality on the minimum reference flow, aiming at providing technical subsidies for the adequate management of water resources. This study is part of the State Plan of Water Resources of the State of Rondônia, developed by RHA together with the Environmental Development Secretariat of the State of Rondônia (SEDAM) and the Ministry of Natural Environment.
